PCI DSS is the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard. Which is a set of twelve requirements that apply to any company that stores, processes, or transmits cardholder data. These requirements help to ensure the safety of customer account data and are especially critical for retailers, large and small. Since these requirements are constantly amended and added to, it is not sufficient to just become PCI compliant, you need to make sure you always stay compliant. If not, you may be levied with heavy fines, penalties, higher processing rates, plus the bad name of having your customers’ cardholder information stolen from your organization. You never want to have to announce, “We were hacked.”
